Only 80 kilometres away from Kampala, located on the shores of Lake Victoria, lies the city of Jinja, and with its almost 500.00 inhabitants it is Uganda’s second largest. The word ‘Jinja’ means ‘rock’ in Baganda and Basoga, which are the language of the people who loved on either side of the Nile in this area. The name stems from the fact that the river could be breached due to large rocks located near the Rippon Falls. These rock formations worked as a crossing point, trade, migration and as a fishing post for locals.
It started off as being a simple fishing village located on an important trade route, but has since expanded immensely due to cotton-packing and railway access among others. 

White water rafting
It’s impossible to talk about Jinja without mentioning white water rafting. Jinja is one of the world’s most magnificent white water rafting destinations with its long, thrilling and rollicking strings of four and five rapids. You also have the opportunity to experience the Nile on your own by kayaking. And don’t worry if you are a first-time rafter, there are routes and intensity for every taste. Even family boat trips are offered.

For the adrenaline seekers
It is not for nothing that Jinja is called the adrenaline capital of East Africa, the list of activities is long. Besides the inevitable white water rafting, the city also offers Uganda’s only bungee jump that are also available at night, quad-biking along the banks of Victoria Nile and horse riding through Ugandan villages. Jinja offers more than spectacular waters and adrenaline thrills, you also have the chance to check out their Nile Reptile Park, Jinja Farmers Market or enjoy a round of golf.
